Merriweather Coffee + Kitchen


Merriweather isn’t just a place to eat and drink; it’s where our neighborhood connects, recharges, and experiences that distinctive blend of Aussie beach life ease and New York energy.

  • In 2015, Peter landed a lease in the iconic West Village of Manhattan. His goal was original at the time: open an Aussie-style café that combined genuine warmth, exceptional coffee, and globally-inspired healthy cuisine in a space that felt both energizing and comfortable.  My design objective was to create a cohesive brand identity and experience within the interior space, as well as all brand touchpoints.

  • Inspired by the vibrant natural beauty and easygoing charm of Merewether Beach in Australia, I developed a visual identity and spatial experience for Merriweather that channels the warmth and high-quality casualness of Aussie café culture in a seaside setting. The hand-drawn logo and illustrated tropical elements evoke a relaxed, friendly vibe—sunny and welcoming, without leaning too heavily into surf clichés. The brand colors are inspired by the Australian ocean, sunset skies and raw coastal landscapes. The tropical greenery and natural light shape a space that feels both energizing and inviting. Playful, custom-designed drink icons represent the variety of customer preferences, reinforcing the idea that Merriweather is for everyone. Across signage, merchandise, and in-store touchpoints, the brand identity flexes with ease—delivering joy, consistency, and a strong sense of place. Just like its namesake, Merriweather is more than a café—it’s a vibe, a human experience built on connection, quality, and a spirit of everyday delight.
